Meet the Formulator

Scott Burgess

Human Performance Architect, syntopical learner, and formulator of Rhizomatic Gardens' Mushroom Stacks. On a mission to give people cleaner, more thoughtful options for everyday energy, focus, digestion, sleep, and midlife balance.

A formulator who learned to ask better questions.

Scott Burgess spent more than two decades working around healthcare environments where precision and accountability mattered. That experience shaped how he evaluates products and ingredients.

When he began studying supplements, he noticed a disconnect between what products promised and what was actually inside them. Marketing claimed one thing. Labels often revealed another.

The question became simple, but stubborn:

"If quality matters this much in healthcare, why doesn't it matter here?"

Chapter Two

Why mushrooms?

Scott's interest in mushrooms grew while he was looking for better, more natural ways to support health and human performance.

What started as personal research quickly became a much bigger question:

Which mushrooms actually make the most sense for the problems people deal with every day?

Energy. Focus. Digestion. Sleep. Midlife Balance.

Instead of asking which single mushroom was "best," Scott began studying how different mushrooms worked in different biological systems, and more importantly, how they could work together.

Lion's Mane brought one set of strengths. Reishi brought another. Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, Chaga, Shiitake, Agarikon, and others each brought something different to the conversation.

But mushrooms were only part of the equation.

Scott began studying complementary roots, botanicals, and other purposeful ingredients that could strengthen each formula without turning it into an overloaded supplement blend.

The goal became simple:

Build the right stack for the right purpose.

Not twenty ingredients because twenty ingredients look impressive on a label. Not trendy additions. Not proprietary blends hiding tiny doses.

Instead, identify the mushrooms and complementary ingredients that make sense together, understand why they belong together, and formulate each stack around a specific everyday human need.

That process became the foundation of Rhizomatic Gardens.

LOCK IN for focus. REM for sleep. Digestive Orchestra for digestion. All About Movement for sustained energy and movement. Hormonal Harmony for midlife balance.

Every stack begins with the same question:

What combination gives this formula the best chance of doing what it was designed to do?

That is why Scott stopped simply researching mushroom products and started formulating his own.

How Scott thinks

A syntopical learner.

A syntopical learner studies many subjects at the same time and looks for where the ideas overlap.

Mushroom research. Nutrition. Biology. Traditional use. Botanicals. Human performance. Scott lets them collide until patterns emerge.

An ingredient does not earn its place in a Rhizomatic Gardens stack because one study looked promising. It has to make sense across multiple lenses: tradition, mechanism, and real-world application.

That same discipline shows up in what gets left out. If an ingredient does not belong, it does not make the formula. No marketing dust. No trendy additions. Just what matters.

"If an ingredient doesn't matter, it doesn't make the formula."

Chapter Four

Another option for human performance.

Human performance is not just athletic performance. It is having enough energy to move through your day. Being able to focus when something matters. Digesting food comfortably. Sleeping well enough to recover and do it again tomorrow. It is also having support for resilience, recovery, and adaptation as your body's demands change through midlife.

Rhizomatic Gardens was built around supporting those everyday foundations.

The modern performance conversation often defaults to extremes. Scott wanted to offer something different.

Human Performance Mushrooms are about working with the body, not overriding it. Small, daily inputs that support focus, sleep, energy, digestion, and midlife balance as foundations for everything else.

That is the idea behind every Rhizomatic Gardens blend: steady support that compounds over time.

Feel Better. Live Better. Every Day.

Chapter Five

The standard behind every blend.

That same discipline is built into every Rhizomatic Gardens formula. These are the non-negotiables each stack passes through.

Formulated by research

Scott reads across nutrition, botany, biochemistry, and traditional use to build blends that make sense on paper and in practice.

Held to a clinical standard

Every batch is made in small runs and held to the same standard Scott would use for his own family, with nothing added to pad the capsule.

Built for real human performance

Focus, sleep, energy, digestion, and midlife balance. Five zones where small daily improvements compound into something worth talking about.
